Winners' Circle - Andi Michelson

May 10, 2019

Welcome to the Winner's Circle where we celebrate the success of our ICL students. Today we're celebrating Andi Michelson who had one of her ICL course assignments published in a magazine!

Which publisher did you submit your article to?

JAKES Country Magazine

Tell us the title of your entry and a short summary of the story.

"Ick! A Tick!" is a nonfiction article about protecting yourself from tick bites while enjoying outdoor activities.

What inspired your article?

My husband contracted Lyme disease from a tick bite several years ago. We deer hunt together in tick-infested areas and have had to develop strategies for staying safe in the woods.

This was assignment #4 in my Institute coursework.

What do you do when you're feeling discouraged or blocked? Do you have any tips for your fellow writers?

Get outside and take a walk in the woods! Or play the piano.

Is there anything else you'd like to share about your ICL experience?

My instructor, Victoria Sherrow, has been spot-on in her critiques of my assignments. My revisions based on her comments are much better than the originals!

Thank you for sharing in my success! And just a few days ago I received a contract from Pockets (devotional magazine) for my poem "Changes," which they plan to use in the September issue!

Great Read!

"This is another great read from [ICL]... When I saw this particular one, I grabbed it immediately ... This book is a great addition to a writer's (whether published or not) shelf ... I highly recommend their writing courses. You receive feedback on your work from published authors. You will be encouraged but also pushed to make your story from good to great."
